A forum will be held at Fifth Baptist Church at 1415 W. Cary Street in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday, September 15, 2011 to discuss the dreadful disease of Alzheimer's.
When the announcement was read in New Canaan Baptist Church, Pastor Louis R. Blakey, Jr. advised the congregation to attend. He said:
"When you have a relative or a loved one with Alzheimer's, it affects your life as well."
Just one day later, it was announced on television that there is a possible breakthrough for Alzheimer's. This might not have been on the agenda to discuss at Fifth Baptist before, but it sure will be now.
According to the LA Times, studies have found that Inhaling a concentrated cloud insulin through the nose twice a day appears to slow — and in some cases reverse — symptoms of memory loss in people with early signs of Alzheimer's disease,
This is a very preliminary report, but this breakthrough is the closest the medical field has gotten so far. The study involved only 104 people, but it suggests that a safe, simple and cheap measure that boosts flagging metabolism in key areas of the brain that could hold off or possibly derail the progression of the devastating neurological disorder in its early stages.
Insulin applied daily through a special nasal spray might be a treatment that slows or stops the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. That’s hopeful news for millions facing the memory-robbing disease, because nothing has been successful at halting its awful progress.
More study is needed, but researchers are encouraged.
