The Posen shooting which began with a screw driver attack on an ex-girlfriend early Friday morning ended with 28-year-old Sherman T. Threets fatally shot by a police officer. The Posen shooting also took the life of 27-year-old Tristan Hart who “was pronounced dead at 12:07 p.m. at the scene in the 14400 block of South Campbell Avenue” following the Posen shooting according to an Oct. 5, 2013, Chicago Tribune report.

According to relatives, 21-year-old Jenna Sammons and her current boyfriend, Tristan Hart, had just returned home from the hospital after Jenna Sammons’ ex-boyfriend, Sherman T. Threets, had attacked her with a screw driver earlier in the day. She had been struck at least once with the screw driver as she was trying to escape her ex-boyfriend in the car.

Following the screw driver attack and a report that a shooting had occurred in Posen, police officers were called to the south suburban Posen neighborhood around 11:30 a.m. on Friday in order to capture the suspect, Sherman T. Threets. Reportedly, the suspect had shot Jenna Sammons’ current boyfriend, 27-year-old Tristan Hart, and his cousin, when they returned home from the hospital.

Derrick Toombs, the victim's cousin-in-law, told reporters that this was “absolutely shocking.”

"My wife was on the phone with her [Jenna Sammons], and she heard a big boom in the house. . . Next thing you know she heard another shot and she [Jenna Sammons] said, 'I'm shot, I'm shot'."

One of the neighbors who was a witness to the Posen shooting said that she was just heading out to her garage around 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. when she saw a cop holding a rifle in the driveway next door. ”She said the police officer asked if she'd seen anyone running this way. She was startled and said no, and then ran back into her house. ‘Then I heard shots ... pop pop, two shots,’ she said. ‘I'm nervous about it. I'm uptight’."

“Another neighbor, Jack Liu, said he walked out of his home and saw a police car blocking his driveway. ‘Jack, go back, go back,’ a neighbor yelled at him. ‘I went into her house and she said police tried to shoot somebody’."

According to officials, when ex-boyfriend Sherman T. Threets was hiding in an unlocked garage in the Posen neighborhood, he was fatally shot by a Blue Island police officer. He was declared dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital at 12:34 p.m., just a few minutes after the Posen shooting victim, Tristan Hart, had died at 12:07 p.m.

While the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force, which handles officer-involved shootings, is investigating Friday’s Posen shooting, neighbor Joe Biesiada is saying that “I grew up here, and it's not the way it's supposed to be.”
