Portland's only lesbian bar, the Egyptian Club, affectionately known as The E Room, has announced it will  close forever on October 9, 2010. The owners cite the downturn in the economy as the reason they can no longer afford to keep the bar open.

Bar owner Kim Davis was quoted in Just Out newspaper as saying, "I don't want to do this, I really don't. [Running this club is] the biggest thing I've ever done in my life and the coolest."

The Egyptian Club was voted best lesbian bar in the country in 2009 by GayCities.com.

The bar will remain open through October 9 and all scheduled events up until then will happen.
