Portland most, Boston least? Dog friendly...and not so friendly cities

Portland's number one. At least that seems to be the consensus of the research collected on which city is considered to be the most dog friendly in the country.

In fact, Zoom Room, the up and coming brick and mortar dog training franchise, found Portland to be at the top of each of the 9 polls they used to compile their own "Top Ten" list.

The Pawsitively Pets' blog first made mention of this list of lists and it was quickly picked up by Chet the Dog's Facebook page (that's Chet of the Chet and Bernie Mystery Series' fame).

Just for the record, here's the order they came up with:

  1. Portland, Oregon
  2. Colorado Springs, Colorado
  3. Austin, Texas
  4. New York, New York
  5. Seattle, Washington
  6. San Diego, California
  7. Chicago, Illinois
  8. San Francisco, California
  9. Boston, Massachusetts
  10. Orlando, Florida

Boston, of all the cities, seems to be a point of contention. In BBJ's Morning Buzz, Editor Galen Moore points to a Boston Business Journal report proclaiming Boston to be one of the "least dog friendly cities." Not so good when even the local media can't find something nice to say...

Of course, this is not to say that this is the list to end all lists. Ask an owner walking his or her dog up on the Douglas Family Preserve, or off for a romp on Arroyo Burro Beach, or maybe even sitting at the Mexican Fresh Grill on the mesa, and you most likely will get plenty of input on how Santa Barbara should be somewhere high on that list. It's pretty hard to take a drive anywhere in the city or outlying areas and not see a furry face leaning out the window of a passing car taking in the breeze.

A good guess would be that this is the case in any number of other cities across the country. How about your town? Should it be on the list? Maybe even at the top? Or...UGH...down at the bottom?
