Portland Humanist Film Festival: Advancing a culture of free thought

This weekend Portland, Oregon, is celebrating freethought, critical thinking, atheism and secular humanism by hosting the 2nd annual Portland Humanist Film Festival, the largest freethought film festival on the West Coast.

The Portland Humanist Film Festival is a secular cinematic event where Humanists, Atheists, Agnostics, Skeptics, Freethinkers, and the curious from the Northwest and beyond can gather, mingle and share in an exciting and stimulating atmosphere.

This Veteran’s Day Weekend the Portland Humanist Film Festival is featuring 17 films dealing with topics like the impact of powerful extremist religious organizations in politics, the separation of church and state, the human quest for meaning, the cultivation of critical thinking, historical drama, and same-sex marriage.

Rod Bradford’s documentary D.M. Bennett: The Truth Seeker, a video produced at the Center for Inquiry, will be recognized at the 2011 Portland Humanist Film Festival. The juried independent film award recognizes cinematic work that helps to advance a culture that values science, reason, humanist values, and freethought. The film will be acknowledged with the Grand Prize for Best Feature Length Film Award on Sunday, November 13, 2011, during the awards ceremony.
