There is some good news for travelers to Hawai‘i from Portland, Ore., with the announcement today that Hawaiian Airlines is upgrading its planes to wide-body, twin-aisle Airbus A330-200s.
Hawaiian Airlines flyers between Portland and Honolulu know the drill: narrow seats and even narrower leg room on its Boeing 767-300 aircraft have long been the bane of these 5-hour flights to paradise. I've found that it is well worth upgrading to an exit aisle or bulkhead to ensure that ones knees aren't crashed into by that thoughtless jerk in the seat ahead of you.
Plus, the cargo space on those planes is so limited, you want to make sure you stow your bag before the clowns come aboard trying to wedge their steamer trunks into the overhead compartments. Then there's those awful, outmoded entertainment systems.
The transition to the 294-seat A330 will add nearly 11,000 new air seats to the route each year. In addition, the A330 will increase Hawaiian’s cargo capacity on the route by 25 percent.
Flyers also still receive complimentary meals and Hawai‘i snacks.
Hawaiian’s Flight HA 25 departs Portland International Airport daily at 10:05 a.m., and arrives at Honolulu International Airport at 1:00 p.m. The return flight HA 26 departs Honolulu at 2:35 p.m. and arrives in Portland at 11:05 p.m.
Now if only we could get that direct flight to Maui back ...
