Coverage of upcoming film-related happenings around Portland for your weekend ahead

  • The Mission Theater is hosting the Nomading Film Festival (NoFF) on Saturday, from 12-4pm, with travel film screenings, stories, food, drinks, and give-aways. The Nomading Film Festival is driven to unite travelers and inspire travel through the magic of film, and was started on the belief that traveling shapes us, defines us and connects us. There is also an after party at 8pm at Boothster to celebrate film, travel, and four great causes: Teen Living Programs, Project Explorer.Org, 100 Cameras and Matador Youth Scholarship Fund.  -Mission Theater, 1624 N.W.   • Northwest Film Center is hosting "An Evening with Joanna Priestley" this Saturday at 7 pm, where the Portland-based animator will be sharing five new short films, a look back at her 2009 film "Missed Aches" and a sneak preview of her upcoming "Clam Bake."  -Whitsell Auditorium at the Portland Art Museum, 1219 S.W.   • Open Lens: Eugene's Winter Short Film Festival will commence this Saturday at 1pm in Eugene with a seminar, and a meet and greet with filmmakers at 4pm. Film screenings begin at 7:30pm at the UO Baker Center Auditorium. Hosted by the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts, "Open Lens" is a celebration of Oregon's independent spirit in filmmaking, and will feature films of 15 min. or less from many different genres. - UO Baker Center Auditorium, 325 E. 10th Street, Eugene, OR; $8 admission
  • At the Hollywood Theatre, "A Dangerous Method" (watch trailer) will now be playing, with the first showing at 7:15 tonight. The film is the latest from David Cronenberg, who is known for the gritty and electrifying "A History of Violence," and the upcoming and highly anticipated "Cosmopolis." Based on true events, "A Dangerous Method" stars Viggo Mortensen as the infamous father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, and rising star Michael Fassbender ("Shame") as Swiss psychiatrist and former disciple of Freud, Carl Jung. Keira Knightley stars as the troubled and disruptive patient, Sabina Spielrein, who becomes between the two men when they find themselves at odds on how to treat her, and Jung enters into an affair with her.  -The Hollywood Theatre is located at NE 41st and NE Sandy (4122 NE Sandy Blvd); $7 general admission, $5 students
