Today (July 11) the English musical group Portishead announced a North American fall 2011 headlining tour, which will be the bands first time playing North American shows since 2008. The tour will start on October 4th in New York, NY, and conclude on October 27th in Denver, CO. Portishead will be playing in Chicago, IL on October 12th at the Aragon Ballroom.
The 12-date tour only consists of 10 cities because both New York, and Los Angeles have two shows. Prior to the tour, Portishead will be performing at New Jersey's version of the I’ll Be Your Mirror Music Festival.
Consisting of, Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons, and Adrian Utley, Portishead have not released a studio album since 2008's Third. That was the bands third studio album, and it landed at No. 2 on the UK chart, and No. 7 on Billboard 200. In 2009 the band did release a new song entitled, "Chase the Tear" for Human Rights Day to raise money for Amnesty International UK. No official word on if a new album is going to be released anytime soon.
Opening up for Portishead on their North American tour will be Thoughtforms. The only date Thoughtforms will not be performing at is the show on October 15th in Mexico City, MX.
From July 11th until 14th there will be a limited number of tickets available for the North American tour through Portishead’s website. General public tickets will go on sale July 15th and 16th for all the shows except Chicago. Tickets for the October 12th Chicago, IL show at the Aragon Ballroom will go on sale July 22nd.
