North Carolina-based DJ Porter Robinson premiered his new single "Sea of Voices" on Sunday. He departs from the aggressiveness of his past electronic jams to deliver something more mellow and ethereal.
Robinson is used to turning out the clubs with dance tracks like "Language" and "Easy." For his forthcoming album, the DJ is taking a different approach to music. He released "Sea of Voices," the set's first single, on Sunday night.
"i realized that my need to be honest with myself and with you was greater than my need to be famous or whatever," Robinson wrote on Twitter about his shift in sound. "i don't want to cheapen peoples' past experiences of shows or songs. i still f**k with my old stuff. that was my favorite music when i was 18. i am 21 now and now i'm writing 21-year-old-me's favorite music."
"Sea of Voices" opens with wind chimes blowing in a flurry of synths. As the ethereal track progresses, it becomes fuller with atmospheric production. A whimsical voice comes in at the halfway point with pounding beats. Robinson provides a whole new experience with "Sea of Voices," one that submerges the listener in the beauty of electronic music.
Robinson's new album "Worlds" is expected to drop later this year.
