Porter edges Summer Creek 4-3

The Summer Creek Bulldogs playoff s are hanging by a thread following a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Porter Spartans on Saturday afternoon in Summer Creek. The win snapped Porter’s District 19-4A losing record at seven games and Summer Creek’s three game win streak all with one swing of the bat from Spartans senior Tyler Ewart.
Ewart started on the mound for Porter (11-9-1)hurling six innings of pressure filled baseball. Summer Creek left 11 runners in scoring position against Ewart including the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth.
Bulldogs right-hander James Bazan pitched his way in and out and around trouble throwing six and one third innings.
Summer Creek broke the ice first scoring in the fourth with both Keagan Bear and Bake Spindle crossing the plate on passed balls.
The Spartans rebounded in the fifth on a John Bowen double driving home Bradley Harvey knotting the score at 2-2-. Porter took the lead on Ewart’s rbi single scoring Kevin Greenshield who ran for Bowen.
In the bottom of the sixth, C.J. Jackson drove home Spindle with a bases loaded single to tie the game and set the stage for Ewart in the sevnth.
Porter loaded the bases in the top of the seventh against Bazan and Summer Creek reliever Keagan Bear before Ewart’s groundout brought home Nesbitt with the game winner.
Jacob Pillow picked up his first save of the season working out of a second and third two out jam in the home half of the seventh.
The loss hurt Summer Creek’s chances of finding themselves in the final District 19-4A playoff spot entering the final two weeks of the season against district leading Dayton and Barbers Hill.
