A Port Orange man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Daytona Beach Wednesday night. Daytona Beach Police say 26-year old William Welch was northbound on Nova Road just before 11:30 Wednesday night, when his motorcycle struck a car leaving a driveway in the 1400 block of Nova Road, north of Beville Road. Daytona Beach Police say the motorcycle hit the driver-side front door, as the car was making a left turn onto southbound Nova Road. Welch and a passenger were both ejected from the motorcycle, and Welch was pronounced dead at the scene. Daytona Beach Police say the motorcycle passenger, 24-year old Jessica King, was transported to a hospital and was in “…very serious condition…” with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car, 20-year old Bianca Daurio, was transported to Halifax Hospital in serious condition according to police. A passenger in the car also suffered minor injuries.
Update August 24: Daytona Beach Police said Friday that Jessica King died from her injuries early Thursday afternoon. They also added that William Welch had been wearing a helmet, but King had not.
Car engulfed in fire
Daytona Beach Police say that after the accident, the car continued “…out of control onto the west shoulder of southbound Nova Road then crossed all lanes of southbound travel, across the median and all lanes of travel northbound and came to rest [on a guardrail] on the shoulder of northbound Nova Road.” Police say the car also caught fire and became "...fully engulfed in flames...." (Note: corrected to car from motorcycle). Both the driver and passenger were able to exit the car.
