Port City

Port City by Michael Corbett is the first book to tell the comprehensive story of the City’s port and its role in shaping San Francisco.  The book chronicles the port as a thriving center of shipping and commerce, and puts this story in today’s context.  An epilogue charts the port’s decline and transformation to new uses since the 1970s.  An introduction by Mike Buhler and Jay Turnbull addresses the current challenges and opportunities along the waterfront.  This beautifully illustrated 248-page hard-cover book has 300 photos, maps, and illustrations.

San Francisco Architectural Heritage Executive Director Mike Buhler and the book’s author, Michael Corbett will present Port City at San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association’s lunchtime forum on Wednesday, May 11 at 12:30 p.m.  A question and answer session and book signing will follow the presentation.

The event will take place at SPUR, 654 Mission Street.  It is free to SPUR members and $5 for non-members. Port City is $65 (plus tax) and proceeds benefit San Francisco Architectural Heritage.  SPUR members will receive a 10% discount on the purchase of the book at the event.
