Porsche 918 Spyder set a record lap at Nurburgring Nordschleife. The 887-hp supercar was unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in Germany. According to Autoweek on Sept. 10, 2013, the $1 million car destroyed the previous record or a street-legal vehicle.
The Zuffenhausen bruiser sent the first volley by dropping a Nürburgring lap time of just 6 minutes and 57 seconds.
This Porsche 918 Spyder had a lap time that came in at 14 seconds under the old record for a car you can actually drive on city streets. It also beat its own record set last September by 17 seconds. It is still behind the Radical SR8 and SR8 LM for fastest production car at Nurburgring.
A Porsche 918 Spyder costs four times what a standard Porsche 911 Turbo S will run you. Starting September 18 (918), 918 cars will be manufactured for sale in the 2014 model year. The production model engine is rated at 608 horsepower, which should be more than enough for anyone interested. With a base price of $845,000, the 887-hp "Weissach Package" will push it over the $1 million mark.
