The popular Tap Chicks will time-step their way back to the Sierra Madre Playhouse for one performance only at 2:30 p.m., Sunday September 8, 2013. These seasoned tap dancers dazzle with youthful energy. A favorite at the L.A. County Fair for many years, their previous performances at the Sierra Madre Playhouse have sold out, so don’t delay.
Tap dance teacher and choreographer Pam Kay had so many talented students in her Pasadena Senior Center classes she decided to form the Tap Chicks 15 years ago.
Kay says, “My favorite things about the Tap Chicks are their love of dance, love of life and their wild enthusiasm for performing. I must mention our ages range from 60 to 90 years. They are such an inspiration for all ages and I think their key for longevity is ‘Keep moving, stay active and dance.’”
She adds, “Our numbers range from Country, Broadway, Jazz, Modern, Hip-hop, with a lot of comedy mixed in.”
The fully-costumed 80-minute SMP show will include dances to music ranging from Broadway tunes such as "One" from “A Chorus Line,” to 40s favorites like “Sing, Sing, Sing,” to contemporary songs such as “Gangnam Style.” Franny McCartney, one of Bette Midler’s “Harlettes,” will croon a few numbers and “Tap Rooster” Jack Walsh will join the gals in some of the numbers. Kay also will sing and play banjo. “Of course there will be some comedy bits with lots of audience participation.”
The Tap Chicks perform 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 8. Tickets are $20 general, $17 for seniors (65+), $12 for children under 12. Reservations: (626) 355-4318. Online ticketing: www.sierramadreplayhouse.org
It’s a good idea to reserve tickets. The Tap Chicks have a following and strong demand for tickets is expected. Their last ten appearances have sold out.
The Sierra Madre Playhouse is at 87 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. in Sierra Madre. Free parking is available behind the theater.
