Bayside Riders Club (BRC) in St. Petersburg, FL was a popular motorcycle group for many years. 'Was' being the operative term. As of a few months ago, the club is no more. Kaput. Gone.
Over the years, BRC, a non-profit organization with the primary focus of bringing like-minded bikers together, boasted many members and large group rides. At times, the number of riders were so large, two smaller groups were needed to maintain safety. BRC scheduled monthly day rides and a few overnight gigs within the state. St. Augustine and Everglades City were popular destinations.
One of BRC's more popular events was the 'Tin Butt' ride. Based upon the Iron Butt Association's long-distance challenges, to successfully complete this scaled-down version anointed the rider with the 'tin butt' designation.
Then, as things do, the times changed. Several key members moved away. Others, with various educational and family demands, had to take a back seat. Membership waned and finally, not enough members would even show up for scheduled events.
It was at that time the then current club leadership decided to throw in the towel, if no one else would step up to run the organization. Barney's of St. Petersburg was a premier supporter of the club and employees even helped by trying to recruit new leadership. Failing that, and with the website up for renewal, the club was shut down.
There are other clubs in the area, but BRC was one of the best. It shall me missed.
