Next week the popular area music group 'Mac 'n Lee' will appear at The Hibiscus Restaurant in Morristown, New Jersey for one night only. The date and times: Friday JULY 25 6:30 and 8:30.
The group's fine voiced singer is Julie Mac who performs a variety of music from Broadway to the Great American Songbook, folk, and jazz. Some of her major influences include Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Bette Midler, and Nancy LaMott.
Julie is multi-talented: She has studied stand-up comedy with Katelyn Reiter, with Jessica Kirson and Bernie Furshpan, NY Hysterical Society, and she performs with The Late Shift Comedy Ensemble. She has studied with Jimmy Horan, Maria Gentile and Darius Frowner, Mayo Performing Arts Center, Helen Baldassare, Claude Stein, and Carrie Jackson through The Jazz Vocal Collective. She has performed at venues in Iowa, Arizona, the Catskills, and New Jersey. She debuted her one-woman show “As I Am” at the Metropolitan Room in NYC in November 2012.
"I grew up in Iowa on the Great Plains... lots of cornfields and wide open spaces. “I am who I am. I am not ashamed. I am the combination of 2 people who gave me the very best they had to give and who love me unconditionally. I am the straight unwavering row of crops planted with the incredible faith that they will grow. I am the hard work that makes anything possible.
I am the mid-western faith that keeps going through tornados, floods, fires, and accidents. I am strong and I am scared and I don’t quit and I am teachable. I am valuable and I am lovable. Every day I take one step and I believe that I am exactly where I am supposed to be. There is no hurry and there is no destination. There is only the journey.”
Julie gets to sing with two very fine musicians: Lee Tomboulian, who's music has been performed all over the US and in Japan. He has two albums of (mostly) original material. Circo: North/South Convergence and Lee Tomboulian and Circo: Return to Whenever, both on Amazon. Arranged recording projects for Susan Colin, Mary Ellen Spann and Karen Foster, among others, with big band, samba band, and many other ensembles.
The group's star bassist is Belden Bullock. Bullock's a star on both acoustic and electric instruments. After graduating from Boston's Berklee College of Music, he spent several years there as an ensemble professor, and played and recorded with many of the top acts in the Boston area. Now living in New Jersey, Mr. Bullock is a fixture at most of the top jazz clubs in the New York tri-state area, and has played with such jazz greats as Ahmad Jamal, Andrew Hill, James Spaulding, George Adams, Roy Haynes, Lionel Hampton, Gloria Lynn, and Ted Curson. He is currently a regular with artists such as Evidence, The Ralph Peterson Fo'tet, The Oliver Lake Quintet, and Abdullah Ibrahim.
