Talk to any homeowner and they will tell you that they are continually on the hunt for ways to not only save money when it comes to maintaining their home but to also increase the value of their largest asset.
“Home pricing is a hot topic right now,” says Carson Arthur, outdoor expert and TV personality. “Homeowners always want to save money while boosting property value. Every upgrade or change that we make in our homes impacts our expected Return-On-Investment, even when those changes are outside of the house”
Arthur indicates that with fall now in full swing, homeowners have a great opportunity to improve their yards, save money, and get their properties ready for an amazing 2014.
“We’ve had some extreme weather over the last six months which has prevented a lot of people from improving their yards. Even though winter is fast approaching, now is the perfect time to make a change. Not only can you save, you can also make money in the future” says Arthur.
“Get out to your local garden centre and buy plants today that will look great in the spring.”
With fantastic discounts on plants, trees and shrubs, putting in some perennial beds to add curb appeal can boost your homes value buy 7-10% while saving 40 to 60% off the regular ticket price. (Bank of Montreal, 2010)
“Most homeowners don’t realize that if you can get your plants into the ground before the frost hits, they will over-winter just fine” says Arthur “Don’t forget about the lawn either. With so many Canadians investing in grass, a green and full lawn gives the first impression to a prospective buyer that the home has been well cared for”
Arthur is well known for his opinions on grass when it comes to environmental impacts. He suggests to homeowners that if they have to have grass, the best solution to saving money and being environmentally aware is to use RTF Water Saver Grass Seed (distributed by RTF Water Saver Canada in Mississauga).
“While there are all sorts of seeds out on the market, nothing compares to RTF,” he explains. “The roots of this seed can dig down six feet. That’s huge for such a small plant. It means that this lawn uses 30% less water because the roots are able to access more moisture from the ground. A healthy root system also requires less fertilizers and is better at helping the plant deal with disease, insects and even extreme weather”
Equally important during the fall and winter months, the roots of this seed are self-repairing, sending up new shoots of grass to fill in open spaces; providing the curb appeal far better than other grass seeds on the market.
Fall is the perfect time to top dress your lawn by simply mixing 1 part seed to 2 parts topsoil and raking it directly into your existing grass. Also consider using RTF in the problem areas around your home. With extensive roots and the ability to grow in either sun or shade, RTF has become the only grass seed a homeowner needs.
RTF Water Saver grass seed can be found at over 100 retail locations Canada wide, including 27 Canadian Tire locations in the Greater Toronto Area, as well as on The Shopping Channel
