The Atlanta-based organization that runs Popeyes fried chicken restaurants has obtained the recipes for all of the dishes served in the restaurants from Louisiana-based Diversified Foods and Seasonings for $43 million.
The chain's originator, Al Copeland, started the restaurant back in 1972. He lost the organization in a 1990s insolvency case after his doomed securing of the contending Church's chicken chain in 1989.
In any case, he held the elite contract to supply the recipes to Popeyes through Diversified Foods. Now they have the recipes themselves and can independently operate.
