Dear friends, I thank you from my heart and I ask you to continue to pray for me. Pope Francis

When the news first broke that Pope Benedict XVI would resign on February 28, it had also been reported by CNN the Pontiff's Twitter profile would retire permanently as well.

Thankfully, the humble Pope Francis has chosen to also utilize social media, not only to gain followers for his nine Twitter profiles in various languages, but also to spread the Word of Jesus and gain followers of Christ.

The nine of Pope Francis' official Twitter accounts are now live and activie including, English: @pontifex, Spanish: @pontifex_es, Italian: @pontifex_it, Latin: @pontifex_ln, Portuguese: @pontifex_pt, German: @pontifex_de, Polish: @pontifex_pl, Arabic: @pontifex_ar and French: @pontifex_fr.

Pope Benedict’s tweets had been archived by the Vatican. Upon Benedict XVI’s resignation, his English Twitter Profile had reached 1.5 million followers and now, Pope Francis has already amassed close to 2 million.

During a press conference on March 16, Vatican Radio reported Pope Francis had addressed the need mass media plays in the role of the Catholic Church and the importance of communicating the faith to the world.

The Church does not respond to an earthly logic and can be difficult to communicate effectively because the nature of the Church is spiritual, not political. This is the only perspective in which the work of the Church can be presented. Christ is the center, not the Successor of Peter…Christ is the reference point at the heart of the Church, without Him, Peter and the Church would not exist. The protagonist of all these events is the Holy Spirit: it was He who inspired the decision of Benedict XVI for the good of the Church; it was He who inspired the choice of the Cardinals. It is important to keep this in mind as we try to interpret the events of the past few days. The trinity of communication is Truth, Goodness and Beauty. We are not called to communicate ourselves, but this trinity…the Church exists to communicate Truth, Goodness and Beauty.
