Pope Benedict XVI resigns: Malachy’s Peter the Roman next?
Will the next Pope be Peter the Roman as supposedly predicted by St Malachy a medieval cabbalist and Irish priest? Many say he foretold all the popes that would exist from Celestine in 1130 AD to the time of Christ. Many says these writings languished in the Vatican archives until 1590, when they are published by Arnold de Wyon. The fascinating thing is that some take this as proof of the work of God in Catholic history. Others, no doubt take it as an example of self fulfilling prophecy. Since you know exactly what is supposed to be, you see to it happening.
Now this last belief is not totally fulfilling. While any one could write something about the past, before 1590, it would take some intriguing manipulations to make some of the predictions come to pass since 1590 concerning about half of the 112 popes predicted. A few examples will suffice: First I will give the pope’s name; his number and date; the basic prophecy and it supposed fulfillment.
Pope number 235, Paul V (1605–1621), corrupt nation; His papacy characterized by Nepotism.
237, Urban VIII (1623–1644, Lily and rose; native of Florence, red lily on its coat of arms, with a bee I am told taking nectar also from a rose.
239, Alexander VII (1655–1667), Guard of the mountains; family arms include six hills with a star.
244, Innocent XII (1691–1700), Rake in the door; Last name "Rastrello" in Italian means "rake."
258, Leo XIII (1878–1903), Light in the sky; coat of arms had a shooting star.
263, Bl. John XXIII (1958–1963), Shepherd and sailor; From Venice, a maritime city.
266, Bl. John Paul II (1978–2005), from the labor of the sun; Born on the day of a solar eclipse and entombed on the day of a solar eclipse.
267, Benedict XVI (2005–2013), Glory of the olive; Chose the regnal name Benedict after St Benedict of Nursia, founder of the Benedictine Order. The order's crest contains an olive branch.
268, supposedly the next pope called Peter the Roman will be the final and last Pope. In Malachy’s words, “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven- hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."
The fact that many believe that Biblically we are in the very last of the last days and that this purported prophecy seems to fit right in even to the point of the destruction of the Harlot of Babylon, a Major portion of the church and it’s doctrines and inter-relationship with the world’s last human government; in which man will be brought to the edge of destruction. A world full of religious and governmental corruption and persecution of those that have the testimony of Jesus and keep the commandments of God; this should be very intriguingly watched. After all it will tell the tale. Either that organization is coming to an end under a Peter the Roman who will be elected Pope next or not. We are told that we should know by one of the Churches self-appointed feasts, Easter.
