Pope Benedict XVI is retiring. Many older people wish they could retire

Pope Benedict XVI has announced his retirement at age 85. And many older people either wish they could join him. Others love the idea of continued employment later in life.

"I work at Publix on a part-time basis. I need the extra money to supplement my social security. But I also like having a place to go three times a week. If I were not working I would be sitting at home doing nothing. I would not like that," said Jerry Henderson, a resident of Miami.

Others have a different view. "I did not get a pension from my job. So now I have to work at a store even though I am 71 years old. I would like to retire," said Jane Bendoza, a resident of North Miami.

Some have mixed feelings about working later in life. "I like having a job. It is a place to go everyday and I like feeling needed. But I also need the money and so I have to work at age 67," said Sam Ponce, a resident of Miami.
