VATICAN CITY.-Pope Bendict XVI ended his reign on Thursday with a pledge to obey his successor. His era can be defined as one of the most difficult periods with a crisis-ridden status in the catholic church in over 2,000 years of its history. Also becoming the second pope in 600 years to step down from the position.
The Huffington Post said "Whqen Benedict was elected pope at age 78 — already the oldest pope elected in nearly 300 years — he had been already planning to retire as the Vatican's chief orthodoxy watchdog to spend his final years writing in the "peace and quiet" of his native Bavaria.
With Bendict now retired, the seat remains vaccant and the church is currently deciding who the next pope will be and the direction the church will go in.
Currently, the conclave is making their decision behind closed doors, hoping to make a decision soon. And to select the best option for the progression of the Catholic church as well as creating a more diplomatic and organized system for the faith.
