Pop star shaves her head in atonement for dating: Video shows bizarre apology

A 20-year-old pop star shaved her head and basically begged for mercy in a sobbing YouTube video, according to ABC News on Feb. 1, 2013. Minami Minegishi, who is one of the more popular performers in the AKB48 musical group, shaved her head for atonement after getting caught spending the night at a boy’s house and breaking the “no dating rule” set forth for the group.

A young lady with a shaved head made a plea to be allowed to stay in the band after breaking the dating rule. She conveyed how sorry she was and that she understood she was supposed to be an example to young people everywhere due to the position she is in.

According to ABC, the group AKB48 has a history of publicity stunts and one can’t help wonder if this is the case with the shaved head confession by Minegishi. A Japanese tabloid was the first to report on this 20-year-old superstar spending the night at one of the boy band member's apartments.

Minegishi was captured in pictures wearing sunglasses and a mask as she made her way out of the boy’s apartment. The scorned singer spent four minutes pleading her case on the YouTube video and her shaved head was very visible.

This would be somewhat of a joke for most any American pop star. The dating scene is part of being a celebrity on this side of the world. It might be a different story if the Japanese pop star was too young to date, but at the age of 20, it is a natural occurrence in most any culture. Is this the real deal or just a publicity stunt cooked up by the folks who manage AKB48?
