A pop star shaves her head as penance for spending the night with her boyfriend and sobs an apology in a video that has gone viral. Japanese singer Minami Minegishi is one of the stars of the all-girl band AKB48. The band has a rule against dating. After being caught breaking that unreasonable rule, the 20-year-old performer shaved her head and offered a mea maxima culpa via YouTube video, according to a Feb. 1, 2013 report by BBC.
Minegishi was caught on camera as she left the home of boy band dancer Alan Shirahama, her boyfriend, after the couple had shared an overnight visit. A tabloid published the photos of Minegishi's walk of shame, which prompted the singer's production company to issue a reprimand.
Terrified that her actions, the normal actions of a young woman in a relationship, would get her kicked out of the band, the pop star shaved her head and recorded the four-minute apology, which included the following admission of guilt and plea for forgiveness: "If it is possible, I wish from the bottom of my heart to stay in the band. Everything I did is entirely my fault. I am so sorry." She posted the video to the band's YouTube channel.
The pop star who shaved her head wasn't terminated from the band, but she was demoted from the main girl group, which contains 90 active members, to a training group that carries only a fraction of the prestige of the main group.
