It was released today, Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, by show producers of the 86th Academy Awards, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, (in a press release) that singer/actress Pink will be singing at this year's Oscars.
"We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time," said Zadan and Meron. "She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”
In this statement from Zadan and Meron, it's possible that Pink may be part of the entertainment package to celebrate the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz."
This will be the first time for Pink to perform on the Oscar stage. Pink has won six MTV Video Music Awards and three Grammy Awards. Her last two performances at the Grammys have been smash hits and she has had eight singles reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart, which is an industry record. Pink was also named Billboard Woman of the Year 2014. She also starred in last year's film "Thanks for Sharing," credited using her real name Alecia Moore.
