Legalized marijuana, state endorsed 'gay' marriages, government funded abortions and contraception, elementary school Common Core craziness, Hollywood promiscuity, all add up to one thing.
Whether it is physical death in abortion and euthanasia, or spiritual death in sin, our society is revealing its despair in a suicidal tendency.
In our death, Jesus weeps.
"O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel.
Then you shall know that I am the LORD... I will put my spirit in you that you may live..." Ezekiel 37:12-14
There is a death prior to our physical death which popular society is either ignorant of, or wants to blot from our collective American Judaeo-Christian memory. It is the death which results from sin, from a spiritual despair, from a break in right relationship with God.
It is the death of sin. Mortal sin.
"For with the LORD is kindness and with him is plenteous redemption; And he will redeem Israel from all their iniquities." Psalm 130-1-8
Popular society is very forgiving...if you are in lock-step with Political Correctness. Yet popular society, in all its illusory inclusiveness, cannot save your soul from the dark despair it feels in the absence of the God of Love. Popular society will medicate you with drugs, alcohol, and pornography. It will numb you with sex, violent entertainment, and odd spectacle. It will 'protect' you with contraceptives and entitlements. But in the end it will kill you...literally...either physically or spiritually.
"Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is alive because of righteousness." Romans 8:8-11
Popular society promotes mortal sin. In effect, death. The Catholic Church, public enemy number one, arch enemy of spontaneous and immediate gratification, or so they say, is the safe haven of Life and Resurrection. For pop society is void of spirit, and if they have one it is the spirit of Satan. The Catholic Church, however, offers the Spirit of God, life in Jesus Christ, and resurrection.
Resurrection, NOW, from mortal sin. And Resurrection unto eternal life.
“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:1-45
If you are currently dead in sin, don't despair. Repent. And come home to Jesus through the sacrament of confession. If you are currently within the Church, but struggle with addictions and vices, don't despair either. Go to confession, even if you haven't gravely sinned. Grace, in Jesus, is there for the taking!
Pop society offers thrills, then death.
The Catholic Church, though offering the reality of the Cross, offers joy, peace, integrity, hope, wisdom and Love in the Life of Jesus.
Let's spread the good news!
