Pop singer Foxes joins 'Doctor Who' season 8

The TARDIS is about to get a little musical. On May 29 BBC News broke the news that pop singer Foxes will be appearing on the upcoming season of "Doctor Who," the long running science fiction series about time travel. Foxes, whose real name is Louisa Rose Allen, has no previous television roles and is currently promoting her latest album. Foxes will have a small role in the series and perform in at least one episode.

This is hardly the first time that a musician has joined the show, but she also happens to be a big fan of the series. Foxes joins actors Keeley Hawes and Frank Skinner who will also be joining the adventure in the new season, which will debut Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. Capaldi's announcement as the Doctor came late last year on live television, instead of surprising fans in the season seven finale.

The singer, 25, mentioned that she played a gig and met some of the production team for the show and talked about how much she loved it, only to be invited to join a few weeks later. The new season is currently in production and is expected to begin airing in August. She has already visited and the set and checked out the TARDIS, and was excited by all the buttons that actually work.

Digital Spy revealed on May 29 that Foxes will be the first singer on the series to also perform a song in addition to acting. She joined Kylie Minogue, the pop group McFly, Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) and many other musicians who have appeared on the series over the years. It's unclear what her role will be or how many episodes she will appear in.

Foxes is currently promoting her album "Glorious," which was released earlier this month and has a United Kingdom tour scheduled for the fall with Pharrell. She is well known for her collaboration with the rock group Fall Out Boy on the song "Just One Yesterday" and received a Grammy nomination last year for her collaboration with Zedd.

Foxes has had several top ten charting songs over the course of her career and is not branching out into television. The role she will be playing is being kept user wraps, but there is speculation that she will somehow be Clara's twin, although the Impossible Girl has already had many forms.
