It was early November and streaks of people were heading towards Pooja Indian Grocery Store. Most of them came out from the shop with one or two carts full of groceries. What is it about this shop that is attracting so many people?

Pooja Indian grocery store is claimed to be the number one grocery shopping place for any Asian Indians living in Minnesota. If you are interested to make masala chicken or lentil dal from scratch, Pooja Indian grocery store has everything you need. Since it was early November, many Asian Indians were preparing themselves for the huge annual Diwali festival. This means more delicacies! During this time, this place was crowded with people and the lines for the cash registry formed from the middle of the shop.

This store is packed with variety but one is expected to know how each ingredient works. Most are packed in their native Asian Indian language and come in huge packages at a cheap price. These packages can come in large quantities, probably for restaurant purposes but there are also some catered for home cooking too. Need dal? There is chana dal or urad dal. They also have red chori, yellow split pea, black eye peas, urad gota, and kidney beans.

Besides beans, there are also different types of flour, spices, tea leaves, snacks, sweets and ready to eat foods. This is essential because Asian Indian foods are colorful and focused on variety. The best part about Indian food is that most are vegetarian foods! The legumes and lentils can provide the nutrients and proteins that you need.
Other than that, what to expect at the small fresh produce section? Fresh young and old coconuts! Young coconuts are perfect as a drink on a hot summer day while old coconuts can be made into milk for curries. There is also fresh cilantro, radishes, yams and potatoes.

Pooja Indian grocery store is definitely a place worth to go for Asian Indian grocery foods. Since some products are from India, you will also discover interesting ingredients that are uncommon at normal Asian stores. Spice up your life!

Pooja Indian grocery store can be found at 855 45th Ave NE Minneapolis, MN 55421
