Poof, there it is: new fantastic media revealed at Wizard World New Orleans

Comic book conventions whether they are in Chicago, Houston, or New York always the hot spots for new projects and debuts from celebrities, artists, and comic book publishers and Wizard World New Orleans were no exception. At the show a sci-fi celeb and a couple of Texas companies had new projects to talk about.

First up Paul McGillion, of Stargate Atlantis, Sanctuary, and Cold Squad fame talked a bout a new series he has introduced to several networks.

"It's called Captain Starship, it's a new series we've shot and have previewed for several networks.” he said.

The show has several stars with fantastic fiction pedigrees. Such actors as Michael Shanks, Gina Chiarelli, and Erin Karpluk are all part of the ensemble.

The series revolves around an actor (McGillion) who is the star of a Star Trek-like TV series that has to juggle young live-in nephew, career, crazy friends and family at the same time.

Also, Houston comic book publisher Mental Diversions debuted a new book called 'Shifters' during the show. Terry Wagner, co-writer and creator of the series was very happy with his creations.

"It's our first bi-monthly book", he stated, "and it was a huge team effort."

"Cheryl Voskamp and I write an issue, one doing the story then embellishing. I am handling the penciling and my daughter is handling the inking.” he added.

The story revolves around a group of people who have been treated with an experimental drug that brings out hidden personalities, which also morph into different bodies with different super human abilities.

"We'll have a confrontation between a daughter and her mother who does not approve of one of her daughter's personalities, some have warring personalities, literally, and there is even a love triangle between alternate and core personalities of the characters."

Also, another Texas based comic publisher had books to debut. CCP Comics had three new books they were promoting at the show.

The first is called Reichenbach, set in an alternate world where the Victorian era never ended, and the world is ruled by the arcane rather than the high-tech we are introduced to a conflict of powers and our Solomon Kane like lead.

The next is Capetown, a book based around the mythology of New Orleans and a Galaxy Trio like group of superhumans. The team consists of Papa Phoenix, a witch doctor, Loa, a super charged female hero, and Jeshead, a blue skinned, pointy eared Superman clone.

The third book to premier is Dead Beats, homage to Hunter S. Thompson and Grant Morrison, it melds cyborgs, Frankenstein, and road movies into a mash up story in its debut issue.
