The Mustang isn't the only car that's celebrating a significant birthday - the Pontiac GTO is also having its golden anniversary. The car that instigated the muscle car era is as popular as ever 50 years later, which is why the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) opened their doors on March 8, 2014 for a celebration of all things GTO.
If you don't know about the ADM, you should. The ADM stands out among other car museums because it exists "to preserve automotive history, interpret the historical significance, educate our guests and provide them with the opportunity to take a ride in one of the museum’s historic collector vehicles." That's right - they have a rotation collection of over 130 cars that you can ride in!
But for the GTO celebration, several local clubs brought their cars to show the rest of us the greatness of Pontiac's premiere musclecar. Additionally, the Godfather of the GTO, Jim Wangers, gave a presentation that told the story of the market forces that led to Pontiac creating the GTO, and how the GTO created the market forces that all other American manufacturers felt compelled to follow.
Be sure to flip through the slide show to see the GTOs and other Pontiacs that showed up in El Segundo. And if you're in the Los Angeles area, you should keep tabs on the ADM's schedule for other events on the horizon.
