'Poltergeist' remake coming next July

For those who didn't know the beloved 80s horror film "Poltergeist" is being remade and it will be in 3-D. According to the horror site, Bloody Disgusting, the remake is going to be released on July 24, 2015. The remake is going to star Rosemarie Dewitt, Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Kyle Catlett, Saxon Sharbino, Nicholas Braun, and Jane Adams.

Gil Keean will be directing the film and David Lindsay-Abaire, Juliet Snowden, and Stiles White worked on the screenplay for the movie. Sam Raimi is the producer of the movie.

The original "Poltergeist" has been in many top 10 horror lists and has since been an iconic film. It also was released on a summer release, it came out on June 4, 1982. Tobe Hooper had directed the movie and Steve Spielberg produced the movie. Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Heather O'Rourke, and Oliver Robins had starred in the movie.

The film has since been a cult hit, on Rotten Tomatoes it currently holds a 87% and on IMDb the movie currently holds a 7.4 out of 10.

Since the first one came out other sequels had followed, "Poltergeist II: The Other Side" (1986) and "Poltergeist III" (1988). The sequels didn't do good with viewers or critics, at the moment "Poltergeist II" has a low score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 39% and the third movie is worse, it holds at the moment only 13%. Hooper didn't go back and directed either movie, for the second movie Brian Gibson had directed and the third movie Gary Sherman directed.

That's just a little history about the "Poltergeist" series.

So it will be interesting to see how the remake does at the box office and with critics and audiences. Will it be the next summer blockbuster? Only time will tell.
