CNN seems to have a bit of insubordination in the ranks as Lou Dobbs continues to cover the Obama birth certificate story. Dobbs' constant focus on the story is in contradiction to the rest of the CNN staff who consider the matter a settled issue. Talking Points Memo is reporting that the CNN's President Joe Klein went as far as to send a memo to Lou Dobbs staff telling them the birth certificate issue was "dead."
Despite this memo from his boss Dobbs still covered birth certificate story the same day his staff received the memo. Joe Klein has said Dobbs will not face disciplinary action as a result of his continued coverage.
In his defense Lou Dobbs points to his statements that he "believes" Obama is a natural-born citizen. This is true but the fact but right after Dobbs says he "believes" Obama is a citizen he devotes a tremendous amount of time questioning the Obama birth certificate. Dobbs also repeatedly ask why President Obama does not release the alleged "long-form" birth certificate. So in a sense, Dobbs tries to have it both ways by saying he believes Obama is a citizen then gaining viewership by saying "but there are still all these questions left unanswered." In fact Dobbs coverage just fuels the conspiracy theories. It is like me telling someone that I "believe" Michael Jackson did not molest children but I still have all these unanswered questions. What I am really saying in such case is that I have serious doubts about Michael Jackson's behavior with children. The video on my earlier post most effectively demonstrates this point.
At the same time, CNN is probably wise in not taking disciplinary action against Dobbs. If they did fire or suspend Dobbs it would only make Dobbs a hero and martyr to the Birther movement and lead to more coverage of the story. Birthers would claim the "liberal" media was silencing Dobbs for trying to uncover the truth. Better to let Dobbs play his Birther game until the heat dies down and the birth certificate issue ultimately goes away because it lacks any legitimacy.

2) Stop the legal blockade; authorize Hawaii to release whatever they have.
The factcheck COLB has been questioned for many reasons. For instance, his sister was born in Indonesia. She has the exact same COLB. She is NOT natural born. He may not be either. He needs to prove it.

DevPts, it's not hard at all. One way to prove you're a natural born citizen is to show an official document that states you were born in the United States.
Obama has done that. Case closed.
Now if someone says, "Sorry, that's not good enough for me," that's not Obama's problem -- he's proven it according to the law, and it's not his job to try to satisfy every last person with some sort of gripe.
If you think you've got a case, convince a judge. But your side has had pitiful little luck with that so far.

Clearly the new standard is "Free speech for all... on the left that is." The fact that someone wrote an article proposing CNN fire a journalist who asks questions that are not popular with the current administration is really frightening.
So when it comes to free speech you are for free speech for Lou Dobbs but not for me in posing a controversial question about him? I am merely asking a question on the minds of a lot people and allow for people to express their support for Dobbs in comments. In my own article I say it would be unwise for CNN to fire Dobbs. So I am not sure how I am really trying to limit free speech.

That would be great if he had anything valid, supporting his eligibility, to release, but apparently he has nothing of the sort or he would have already done so.

It is an obvious fake for the following reasons: 1) the document does not have a raised, embossed seal 2) it is not signed (take a look at your birth certificate and see if it has the signature of a physician or hospital officials) 3) there are no creases from folding in the scanned version above 4) the certificate number is redacted 5) the document claims to be a “certification of birth,” not a “certificate of birth,” and 6) the date supposedly bleeding through the back of the document says 2007, not 2008, when it was allegedly released.

We can assure readers that the certificate does bear a raised seal, and that it’s stamped on the back by Hawaii state registrar Alvin T. Onaka.”

Serving in the media, and national media at his level is a public trust. There is a mission for the press at this level, impartial reporting. Keith is a very intelligent and very angry man who lost sight of this fiduciary duty. His best friend from ESPN Dan Patrick tells stories of their most memorable moments being the anti-social, anti-management ones. It seems that Dan thought they were funny and Keith was serious about his disdain for those who did not see things his way.
