Polk County kicks off Spring Training with family-friendly Feb. 16 event

Spring Training is just around the corner, and Polk County is holding a big kick-off with a family-friendly event on February 16.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Polk Outpost 27, located on Highway 27, half a mile south of the I-4 exit. The kids can play in a baseball-themed bounce house and much free popcorn while watching a basball-themed movie. They'll also meet Ace, the Lakeland Flying Tigers mascot.

A memorabilia collection from the Detroit Tigers will be on hand at the event, and attendees can register for the chance to win tickets to a Tigers Spring Training game or a game-work Tigers jersey. Bring canned goods to donate to local food banks and you'll also be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift card.

The Highway 27 exit is only about 10-20 minutes down I-4 from the Walt Disney World area, depending on the specific area from which you're coming. 27 leads to Legoland Florida, another popular Polk County attraction. Stay on I-4 for Fantasy of Flight, yet another fun place to visit in the county.

Polk County Outpost 27 is the official visitor information center for the area, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
