POLITICAL CORRECTNESS VERSES TRANSFORMED CORRECTNESS

In a nutshell, “political correctness” was an attempt to change the prejudice and discriminating climate in America by changing the social language to a language that was more multicultural and inclusive. Political correctness along with tolerance became a nationwide effort to practice respect for others. These two constructs became necessary measures to redirect the language and behaviors resulting from the pervasiveness of racism in American society.

One would have to live under a rock, not to know that certain code words and racial language are still embedded and entrenched in social and political ideology by certain racial groups in America as an attempt to construct their own meaning of reality in this country.

Political correctness was also a method that people of color and certain whites courageously advocated together in order to address the language and behavior of prejudice and discrimination in contemporary society. The American language was once extremely verbal with racial slurs, sexist remarks, offensive or insensitive statements that negatively impacted many people of color and minority groups.

In addition, political correctness was meant to pull down the barriers that prejudice language had constructed between racial and minority groups in America. Political correctness, to a certain degree, controlled language and behavior but not the heart.

Even with all this effort, racism, hidden or overt, still negatively impacts the personal well-being of people of color and other minority groups in the United States. President Obama has been instrumental in revealing the hearts of many and the language spilling out over the media and in private conversation demonstrates that racism continues to thrive in our society.

Political correctness has been seriously impacted and it is obvious to every person in America that has their eyes open that racism remains a major problem. This problem will not disappear without the supernatural effort of true followers of Christ in this country.

True followers of Christ have been called the “Sleeping Giant.” True believers have all the power in the world on their side, but stand in the position of cultural “followers” instead of cultural “leaders.”

If America is 80% Christian how in the world can racism still negatively impact the lives of millions of people of color and minorities in this nation rather than the transforming power of the “love of God?”

This is not to negate the work of many true God-fearing people and those who honestly live a Christ-like lifestyle. But political correctness is getting out of hand as we witnessed in Todd Starnes article about troops and Muslims. God’s word and God’s ways never fail and never changes.

Each follower of Christ inherited the gift of the Holy Spirit and can engage in a language and behavior that is loving, compassion, merciful, full of grace, and the fruit of God’s spirit. Christians are not shaped by political correctness, but are transformed by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit that allows them to have favor and good understanding in the sight of God and mankind (Proverbs 3:4). This means followers-of-Christ can get along with all kinds of people regardless of their differences.

Followers of Christ, the suggestion is to think for yourself. Think your Christian values. Live your Christian values. Separate yourselves from any terms and self-fulfilling constructs that don’t agree with biblical principles or scripture (2 Corinthians 6:16-18). No matter how good the “term” or social construct follow and quote the Word of God. Stop jumping on every verbal bandwagon that "sounds" good.

It’s not political correctness that will make a lasting difference in American society, its individual, supernatural transformation by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, within the hearts of true followers of Christ, that will break down racism, sexism, and any other kind of ‘ism among American brethren.

This is TRANSFORMED CORRECTNESS: "Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it." (Ephesian 4:29) AMP.
