The Colorado Springs Police Department warned the public on Thursday night of the city's 13th sexually violent predator. Residents within a 3-block radius of 3033 East Platte Avenue #104 were warned that 38-year-old Daniel Lawrence Murphy would be residing near them and the announcement was also sent to local media.
Murphy was convicted in 2000 of subjecting a 9-year-old girl to sexual contact in Suffolk County, New York. He has also been convicted of harassment, physical contact, forcible touching and failing three times to register as a sex offender. The conditions of Murphy's release are that he registers quarterly as a sex offender and abides by the other terms and conditions of his parole.
Murphy is described as a white male, 5'5", 185 pounds. He has hazel eyes and brown hair. He has two tattoos, including a bat on his left calf and a Celtic Wiccan symbol on his left arm, as well as two scars on his stomach.
State law authorizes the police department to notify the public of sexually violent predators living in the area. A sexually violent predator is one who is at high risk of re-offending. If anyone witnesses Murphy engaging in high-risk or inappropriate behavior, they're asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department immediately.
