Authorities found two more bodies today in Anthony Sowell’s house in Cleveland, Ohio for a total of eight bodies. The two bodies were found in the backyard, and it appears that the police have not stopped looking for bodies over the past few days. The police and neighbors stated that they could smell a foul smell fifteen feet from house, but a sausage shop is located next door and everyone thought the smell was coming from there.
A month ago, Anthony Sowell was accused of rape and felonious assault, an arrest warrant was issued for Sowell and then a search warrant for his house. Sowell was not on probation or parole so he was not being monitored by authorities.
A police press conference is schedule for 6 pm EST today, CNN reported.
On Thursday, the police enforced the search warrant and entered Sowell’s house and found several decomposed bodies. Over the next few days, they uncovered a total of six bodies. Two bodies were on the third floor of the house, one was buried under stairs in the basement, two were found in a crawl space, and the sixth body was found outside.
In an initial statement the coroners’ office stated that the decomposed bodies may have been there for weeks, months or years, because the bodies had decomposed at different stages and this made it difficult to determine the ages of the victims. It was determined that four of the bodies had been strangled and were female.
Families of missing women in the area have been waiting to discover if their loved one was one of the women found buried in the house. The police stated today that they were gathering dental and DNA records from the families of the missing girls to determine if there is a match.
In a similar case in 2007, two men in Utah went missing for over a month until their bodies were discovered buried under a shed in a shallow grave. The entire area was surrounded with junk that the owner collected. The police suspected a registered sex offender, Martin Nelson that was already in jail at the time the bodies were found. Nelson has been convicted of the two men's deaths. Another young man disappeared around the same time, and it was suspected that Nelson was also responsible for his disappearance.
