Jackson police are searching for a man who stole a cart of groceries belonging to two elderly women Thursday, according to report filed at the Jackson Police Department.
The report said around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Ashley Barrett, 21, who works in the loss prevention department at Walmart North, located at 2196 Emporium Drive, was flagged down concerning a theft of groceries.
According to the report, Francis Pate, 86, and Elizabeth Stines, 95, both of Jackson, had placed their shopping cart in the middle of the foyer and sat on the benches as they waited for their ride to pick them up. When the bus arrived, the women got on the bus and as usual, the driver entered the foyer area to retrieve the groceries, but the cart was gone.
Barrett told Jackson Police Officer Steven Story she retrieved video of the foyer area, which showed a light skin, black male taking the cart. She also gave Story a copy of the surveillance video.
The report said the suspect was wearing black shoes, black pants, a multi-colored toboggan style hat with ear flaps and a white, short sleeve, sports style shirt with gold strips on the sleeves and the number 23 on the front and back.
The suspect was seen in the video hanging around the victims talking on a cell phone before the theft occurred.
The report said Pate had 17 grocery items, which were valued at $90.14, in the cart. Stine had five grocery items, which were valued at $3.54, in the cart.
Jackson police are asking that if anyone has information as to the identity of the suspect to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or call in an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS (8477).
