Police searching for person who shot therapy dog in Pennsylvania backyard

Northern York County Regional Police need the public's help to identify the person(s) responsible for shooting a 4 1/2-year old English Bulldog in his Pennsylvania backyard around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, February 17.

Barney Fife is a therapy dog who spends time with dying patients at Memorial White Rose Hospice in York.

His owner, Bill Buckingham, states he let Barney out in the fenced-in yard for just a few minutes. Then he noticed later that Barney was bleeding.

The bullet was not removed due to it being an invasive operation, and because anesthesia is risky for Barney's breed.

If you have any information about this, please call Northern York County Regional Police at (717) 292-3647 or (717) 292-5087.

Barney returned to the veterinarian today because his condition seemed to be worsening.
