Police searching for individual who shot and killed dog in California

A mixed breed dog was shot and killed on Tuesday night by someone in El Cajon, Calif.

According to Wednesday's ABC 10 News, the police are reaching out to the public with the hopes of finding out who is responsible for the dog's death.

U-T San Diego reports that a citizen notified the authorities that there was a gunshot heard on Millar Ave., around 7:55 p.m.

The individual who placed the call to the police went outside after hearing the gunshot and saw a dog run approximately 25 yards, and then collapse to the ground. The dog did not survive.

The witness told the authorities that headlights from a vehicle were seen leaving the area, but that individual was unable to provide a description of the car.

The medium sized dog who was killed was not wearing a collar, but appeared to be healthy and well taken care of.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the El Cajon police at (619) 579-3311.
