A fan was stabbed in the neck following a Falcons game overnight, and officials said Monday that the man was in stable condition.
So far, no one has been arrested in the stabbing, officials said.
The incident unfolded about 6:40 p.m. when an altercation occurred in the Silver Parking Lot outside the Georgia Dome after Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the 49’ers and Falcons, according to the Georgia World Congress Center officials.
The GWCC police declined to release the details of what happened, but witnesses said the fight was between the fans of both teams.
A Falcons fan had just left the Georgia Dome after Atlanta’s defeat when he began arguing with a small group of 49ers fans in the silver lot outside Gate D, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The argument escalated with the Falcons booster punching a San Francisco fan. And at that point, someone pulled out a knife, slashing one of the fans in the throat area, the news station reported.
Police used pepper spray to subdue the chaotic scene, and officers later recovered the knife they believe was used in the fight.
The 35-year-old man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, GWCC spokesman Mr. Jason Kirksey said.
Georgia World Congress Center Authority Police Department and the Atlanta Police Department are investigating the incident, Mr. Kirksey said.
