Two men robbed the Georgia Power office Monday after breaking into a Goodwill store and spending hours tearing down a wall and opening the company’s safe in Fayetteville.
“It’s extremely unusual and very brazen even on a holiday and on a morning,” Fayetteville police spokesman Detective Mike Whitlow said. “They planned it out and they were confident in their plan.”
Police on Friday were still looking for the suspects who were wearing ski masks during the burglary, which happened between 2:30 and 5:30 a.m.
Surveillance video shows the two men as they broke into the Goodwill store adjacent to the Georgia Power office at 535 South Glynn St., Det. Whitlow said.
“The men then tore apart sheetrock and entered the Georgia Power office through a wall,” Det. Whitlow said. “The men spent approximately three hours inside as they broke into the safe and took the cash.”
The men caused significant damage to the two businesses as well as to a vacant building that they originally tried to break through to get to the Georgia Power office, he said.
It was unclear how much damage they caused and how much money they stole Friday.
The suspects attempted to disarm the surveillance system but were unsuccessful. Still, they were able to circumvent the alarm.
Police are reviewing video from nearby businesses and processing evidence from the crime scene.
