Police, including Michigan State Police forensics technicians, searched Bob Bashara’s home on Middlesex in Grosse Pointe Park Wednesday. Sources have indicated that blood may have been found in the garage of the house.
The MSP executed a search warrant for the Bashara house just before 11:00 AM Wednesday morning.
The action occurred exactly two weeks after Jane Bashara’s body was found in an alley on Detroit’s east side. She had been strangled.
Bob Bashara’s attorney David Griem said he heard searchers found what they believe to be blood in the garage of the house.
Though police would initially neither confirm nor deny that finding, WDIV-4 reports that the blood sample has been sent to an out-of-state crime lab to determine, among other things, if it is human.
Attorney Griem thinks the second search may have been prompted by statements made to police by handyman Joe Gentz.
Gentz told police he was hired by Bob Bashara to kill Jane Bashara.
But Gentz gave so many inconsistent statements to the police that his testimony alone, so far at least, has not been enough to convince prosecutors to issue an arrest warrant for either man.
So it is logical for police to search for physical evidence that would bolster Gentz’ credibility, or point independently to a suspect.
“This is going to be a gumshoe investigation,” said Grosse Pointe Park Chief David Hiller. “We are going to keep digging until we get solid evidence as to what happened to Jane Bashara.”
David Griem said Tuesday that he expects charges against his client, thinking authorities are working on a plea deal including testimony from Joe Gentz. But that seems unlikely give Gentz’ lack of credibility.
Examiner will continue to follow this case, so stay tuned.
