Montego Bay police have made the claim that a man affiliated with popular Dancehall artiste, Mavado, tried to buyout the assault case against the deejay yesterday. Reportedly, the man who’s currently being held in custody is a popular promoter in Montego Bay with ties to the “Gully God.”
Sources close to the Montego Bay police told the Jamaica STAR that they received information & contacted the two complainants regarding the matter. The man made an offer to pay JA$500,000 to the complainants, given that they would not take the assault case to court.
The complainants then met the promoter at the Fairview Shopping Centre in Bogue, Montego Bay but the promoter refused to make the exchange at the shopping Centre; asking a taxi driver to drop he & the complainants at an undisclosed location to execute the deal. However, the taxi man was an undercover officer who was part of an ongoing sting operation; taking said promoter into police custody. Reportedly, the JA$500,000 along with the BMW the promoter was driving and a firearm were all taken into custody with further investigation into the matter to come. No comment has been made from anyone in Mavado’s camp regarding the incident.
The assault case being referred to, took place on Friday night; hours after Mavado performed at Reggae Sumfest 2011. Mavado and one of the complainants, a 51 year old man got into an argument after the “Delilah” deejay insisted the man didn’t give him enough space to pass while driving along Belmont Road in St. James. Allegedly, Mavado used his car to ram into the front of the man’s car, injuring his hand. Moments later, one of Mavado’s entourage member reportedly jumped out of his car with a machete; slapping the man’s 17 year old son in the mouth. Mavado has yet to report to the Anchovy Police Station where he’s requested for questioning about the matter.
