A Roosevelt woman was arrested Saturday on weapons charges after police found an illegal social club operating in the basement of her home, Nassau County police said in a Sunday night news release.
According to police, Melinda Almonor-Douglas, 32, had approximately between 70 and 80 people partying in the basement of her home at 53 William Street around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. Officers went to the home after responding to a computerized notification of gunshots being fired in the vicinity.
When the officers arrived to the scene, they “heard a lot of yelling and loud music coming from the basement of the home,” the news release said. An investigation by officers revealed that Almonor-Douglas was “conducting a social club in the basement of her residential home.”
Police squashed the party and began to clear the house. “As officers assisted approximately 70-80 people safely out of the home,” cops found an unloaded .38 caliber handgun in the basement.
Almonor-Douglas was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
