A Roosevelt man faced a judge for arraignment Tuesday after being arrested on Monday for forcibly touching a young girl inside a Freeport home, Nassau County police said in a news release.
Harold Whyte, 65, of 100 Pennsylvania Ave., was released without bail after pleading not-guilty during his arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, records show.
Police said Whyte went to a home in Freeport on Sunday around 1 p.m. and while inside the home, he put his arm around the girl and then “placed his hand down her skirt.” Cops said he told the young girl not to tell anyone.
Whyte was arrested at the First Precinct on Monday and charged with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.
Judge Eric Bjornbey issued a temporary order of protection barring Whyte from contacting the girl, before releasing him from custody. Whyte is due back to face the charges in a Hempstead courtroom on April 9. He could not be reached for comment.
