Police release dash cam video showing shooter’s final moments

In a desperate act of self-defense, state trooper Jason Cooper from Belding, Mich. shot and killed a Sidney, Mich. man, Bernard Rowley, after Rowley fired a shotgun blast at another trooper’s vehicle. Yesterday, the Michigan State Police released the trooper’s dash cam video which depicted Rowley shooting and hitting the trooper’s cruiser.

Moments after Rowley took that shot, another trooper returned fire and the shooter was dead, according to Mlive.com.

Prior to the shooting which took place in the early morning hours of Jan, 5, trooper Roger Hunt had been pursuing Bernard Rowley’s vehicle through the streets of Belding when trooper Cooper was called in as backup.

At approximately 5:12 a.m., Rowley exited his vehicle and took that shot at the trooper’s cruiser. Rowley’s shotgun blast took out the window of Officer Cooper's cruiser.

Immediately after Rowley took his shot, Cooper returned fire; and Rowley was shot and pronounced dead at 5:37 a.m.

The dash cam video accompanying this article shows Rowley’s shot, but was edited to only show the shooter’s final moments and not his death.
