Kyle Van Winkle, 30, son of a police sergeant in Grandview, Missouri, is dead after an altercation at the Chiefs/Broncos game Sunday afternoon.
An unnamed fan said when he and his son took a break during the game, Van Winkle was found inside the owner's Jeep rifling through paperwork, presumably in the act of stealing something of value inside the car.
A scuffle ensued and law enforcement was called to Lot A at approximately 5:20 p.m. Sunday.
One police officer on scene reportedly Tweeted that the death of Van Winkle was a homicide but other authorities say "not so fast.” Although Van Winkle and the owner of the Jeep reportedly fought and Van Winkle was found dead outside the car, there were no obvious wounds from either a knife or gun.
The investigation is ongoing and the results of the autopsy and toxicology report may not be known for several weeks.
Following a lead, police later searched the home of the deceased looking for additional clues into his death.
Kansas City law enforcement is reaching out to anyone who might have witnessed this incident and asks they contact TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
