Last week, police in Fairborn arrested Kodi Weatherspoon, 34, after a violent confrontation with the baby's mother, in which his 1-month-old son's scalp was ripped from his head.

Weatherspoon reportedly beat the woman in the head while she was holding the infant, and tore a portion of the baby's scalp completely off, according to police.

Weatherspoon claimed that he was attempting to pull the woman's hair, and instead injured his son in the melee.

The suspect called 911, saying: "I got a hurt baby . . . me and my wife, we got into a little argument and the baby got hurt."

The injury was so severe that the baby's skull was actually exposed.

The Fairborn Daily Herald reported:

“The injury provided me with the observation of what appeared to be bone to the head,” the reporting officer wrote. “Ms. Weatherspoon continued to advise that she believed her husband had pulled their child’s scalp off by pulling the infant’s hair as he was trying to pull hers.”

The reporting officer observed that the infant was “motionless” but was “still breathing with impairment of possible asphyxiation.”

The child was transported to Children’s Medical Center. A Fairborn medic packed the 2-inch diameter section of severed scalp with ice packs and transported it to Children’s Medical Center for a possible graph, police said.

The woman's 4-year-old daughter was also in the home at the time of the attack, but was unharmed.

Weatherspoon has been charged with felonious assault and one count of endangering children. He is currently being held at the Greene County Jail on $20,000 bond.
