A 22-year-old man was struck by a car while he was lying in the roadway of a Uniondale street in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, Nassau County police said.
Police said the man was stuck at 12:58 a.m. by a 23-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel of her 2000 Honda, driving northbound on Uniondale Avenue. Detectives believe the man was lying in the roadway on Uniondale Avenue when he was hit. He suffered multiple injuries and taken by Nassau County police ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. As of Saturday afternoon, the man was listed in serious but stable condition, said police.
Investigators are now trying to figure out why the man was lying in the road, according to a news release. The vehicle was impounded at the scene by police for safety inspections.
First Squad detectives are conducting an investigation, which remains ongoing. There is no criminality suspected in the incident, said police.
