Police looking for person responsible for death of puppy thrown into dumpster

On the night of Thanksgiving, a man who was walking his dog in Winter Haven, Fla., made a heartbreaking discovery inside of a dumpster which was located near a hotel, reported Saturday's My Fox Tampa.

Joshua Wanie said that it was his dog who first alerted him to a problem - the dog pulled him to the dumpster, near the Royal Inn, where "faint" whimpering could be heard from inside.

The weak cries were coming from a young Rottweiler puppy who had been wrapped in three plastic bags and discarded like trash.

Though the pup was rescued from the trash bin, he was not able to be saved.

The pup, who was gasping for air following his release from the bags, was rushed to the Polk County Animal Control where he died a short time later.

Authorities in the area are hoping that someone can provide information about this disturbing case of animal cruelty. Anyone with information is asked to call the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-401-2256.
